Brown Powder Dreams, and the Nod
We were wavering that night.
Needle pierced and shimmering,
I talked to you until there were no more words to say.
I tried to hold your hand the night,
But I could not bear to touch you anymore.
You kept me alive that long drive home.
Through the west Virginia mountains,
To our small Virginia home.
And somehow you found the strength to carry me,
And lay me on the floor.
To sing to me sweet lullabies,
While I drifted through the Andes peaks,
When sun was magical and man the golden seed.
The sparrow soared and was my eyes.
I did not hear you call my name.
Through the lush green mountains,
To the snow capped peaks,
I soared,
And the earth gave all her love to me.
All the while you called my name,
Giving all your love to me.
A desperate plea to break the dream.
You gave up all your love to me.
And for just one moment I thought I saw,
From the ceiling down,
Down upon you, and saw you holding my hand.
The desperate plea.
It was long, long, ago,
My last glimpse of Earth,
Of you,
Of heaven or of sea.
I embarked upon that night on a never-ending dream.
